Located in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Mandala Lake sits atop a beautiful vista near Volterra, a unique medieval village known for its history and production of alabaster arts (and its cameo appearance in the Twighlight movies!). Mandala Lake is a yoga retreat center that feels like taking a breath of fresh air, and is the ideal location to host yoga retreats and teacher trainings. It is a freshly renovated property, which boasts fantastic yoga shalas, thoughtfully themed rooms and is situated on a property which epitomizes the magic of Tuscany. Even with state of the art and modern facilities, Mandala Lake exudes the authentic and historical charm of this part of Italy. Mandala Lake is named after the charming crystal lake that is perfect for a refreshing dip in between yoga practices. Located strategically to feel like a true retreat, but with easy access to many cultural sites, a stay at Mandala Lake is sure to refresh and rejuvenate.
There are four main buildings in which guest rooms are found, each representing a different element; earth, fire, water, air. The rooms are clean, comfortable and unique with simple imaginative décor. With a total of 13 + rooms, Mandala Lake is optimal for large groups (weeklong yoga retreats) and yoga teacher trainings.
Outfitted with a stunning yoga shala which has a sprung wood floor, Mandala Lake provides a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere for practicing yoga. Its unique octagonal shape, representing the eight limbs of yoga, holds participants in an embrace that inspires transformation and discovery. The floor of the shala can be heated, and yoga mats and props are available for use.
Many activities can be enjoyed at Mandala Lake, including hiking, biking and horseback riding. For the more contemplative participant, there are many quiet places to sit and take in the classic Tuscan landscape.
If you happen to be interested in the culture and history of the area, then world heritage towns like San Gimignano, Siena and Pisa are all within an hour drive along scenic roads. Volterra is just a stones throw away, with all that Italian culture has to offer. While you are there, don’t forget to enjoy an authentic Italian gelato! For those wishing to indulge in Italian traditions, upon request, wine, cheese and chocolate tastings can be organized. Day trips to the Mediterranean Sea can also be organized upon request.
